Meet Jack!

Jack, addressing The United Nations
August, 2018

We are delighted to introduce Jack McConnell as one of our featured learners & speakers at #USQ19! A 17-year-old from Atlanta, Georgia, Jack was born with hearing loss and has been wearing hearing aids since he was six weeks old. His mission in life is to make hearing care more affordable worldwide.

When he was in 5th grade, Jack started a non-profit foundation called 20/20 Hearing to give the gift of hearing and ensure the right to communicate. Since its creation, 20/20 Hearing has been able to financially support families all over America that could not afford hearing care. And, in partnership with The Starkey Hearing Foundation, Jack has personally fit over a thousand people with hearing aids on 14 mission trips in nine countries.

In 2017, Jack was able to help get a law passed in his home state. SB 206 The “Hearing Aid Coverage for Children Act”, known as “Jack’s Law“, requires  that private insurers cover the cost of hearing aids for children in Georgia. This marks the biggest victory to date for deaf and hard of hearing children!

In 2018, Jack addressed the United Nations on the ability of youth to see ways around obstacles others may miss.

In addition to continuing to help families fund hearing care through his foundation, Jack intends to develop more affordable hearing devices, and will pursue a college degree in engineering in order to make that happen. Jack is currently a founding student of a startup high school focused on GiANT Worldwide’s leadership program.

Jack’s determination to share his gifts, his open-mindedness to learn with and from others, and his capacity to see the potential in partnering with a wide range of people to accomplish a common goal are only a few of the reasons we are so excited to have him join us at #USQ19!
